Jeff P. Is the Hazardous waste liaison officer (HWLO) for CEI Mississauga, responsible for ensuring the hazardous waste at the site is disposed of every three months as per regulations.

The lab coordinators for each lab are responsible for segregating waste appropriately and safely in their labs spaces. A working label is placed on the exterior of a waste container that indicates the chemicals present and the concentration of each chemical; the label also states the hazards, who generated the waste and when the waste generation started.

When a waste container is full or when a hazardous waste pick up is scheduled, a final label is generated. We have a hazardous waste label generator that the lab coordinators use to add this information about their waste to an excel database which is used to print a final label and populate a shipping manifest for the waste hauler.

I generate the manifest and send the manifest to the hauler, and the hauler will provide a quote for this waste and pick up the waste on the scheduled date.

In addition, chemicals that are stored at our site that expire (legacy chemicals) must be disposed of during the hazardous waste pick up. Preferably, we do not create a lot of legacy chemicals, and if so we dispose of them regularly.

We will want to start separating and distinguishing a bit more carefully between landfill, hazardous waste, and recycling (my bad). May need to purchase some more garbage bins for this.

From Kurtis L. related to resins:

Our resin printing waste follows the same procedure as our building-wide hazardous waste pickup that occurs every 3 months.

We separate our resin 3DP waste into 3 categories:

Liquid Waste #1 Expired Resin
Liquid Waste #2 Resin Washing liquid – IPA + 10%resin
Solid Waste Lab debris(paper/plastic parts/gloves/ 1-2% resin, trace% IPA)

We put lightly soiled material directly be placed in the lab debris, not minding if there is a small quantity of resin. Heavily soiled gloves, old resin tanks, towels (i.e. saturated), etc.. are first put into a curing chamber then placed in lab debris once solidified. Curing waste makes it a lot easier to deal with! We’re lucky enough to have a curing chamber large enough to fit entire Form3L tanks.

Lab debris is collected in hazardous waste bags that are accumulated into 1-2 drums before the scheduled pickup. If your quantity is low enough, we might be able to add a bag or two to these drums, but checking with Farhad’s team is best.

Need to order them from the specific company that takes care of it every three months. Barrel won't fit in the lab so we can place it downstairs labelled for AC dev lab.

Da-Lee Group is responsible for waste removal from NRC using hazardous waste drums. Will contact the Da Lee representative provided by Jeff Powell, Steve Manz. Hoping to meet with Jeff within the next week too to get down exactly what kind of drum we need as well as a quote from Steve.

Talked to Jeff-- Need to get a quote from Steve based on the following factors:

• type of hazardous waste
• estimated amount produced / 3 months
• safety protocols of the hazardous waste

The drum can be bought from Da-Lee and it can be stored in the second floor storage beside NRC's.
Aside from that, I need a list of hazardous waste we have/will be using at AC Dev Lab to send Steve an email and request a quote. If any of them are liquid chemicals, they have to be labelled with the following sticker.

Yeah the resin spill waste is still an issue. The 2 bags are still there.
