The issue
You can't Open Steam overlay in the steam release

The Solution (i think)
Adding Borderless windowed as an option

The Steam overlay works for me, and Aleph One already runs in borderless windowed...can you provide more details?

intresesting, it doesnt, Im on MacOS if that changes anything...
