Have you tried the icons in the other places in your system?
Can you make a gist with your config?

It doesn't seem to fix it unfortunately. I did happen to notice it is only when I am plugged in. Unplugged I do see the battery, are the plug icons in another font package? |

Same thing with the muted speaker icon. It's really strange to me that some work and some don't, like my font package only has half of them? Or is it a rendering issue? |

I have same issue. Downloaded and unpacked fronts from website.
I wonder maybe gnome shell uses some fonts which are already installed. |

same issue but with some icons from the mpd module. I'm not sure if this is a duplicate. I opened an issue here #1020 |

I've investigated this and tried to get to the bottom. I see different behaviours with different versions of the FontAwesome package. After testing the free desktop FontAwesome packages version v4.7.0, v5.15.x and v6.1.1 I believe the only one that is working fine for me is the oldest v4.7.0. Version 4.7.0 of the package has *.ttf files, later versions use *.otf fonts packaged (not sure if this is relevant). How I did the tests:
My style.css has the relevant CSS rule:
How my bar looks like with 4.7.0 (almost fine, just one strange icon) How my bar looks like with 5.15.4 or 6.1.1 (a couple of "broken" or unrelated icons) Links to download the various versions. Does it help to make sense of this behaviour? |

I think the issue might be that the newer FontAwesome package(s) doesn't include the shorter FontAwesome family. So I needed to specify: "Font Awesome 6 Free" and not just FontAwesome. I put it at the end of the font list as otherwise on my system, it takes priority even for non-icon rendering (which looks ugly). If this is the issue, it presents a problem, as it means the font-family needs to be changed on every FontAwesome update in waybar. It seems like more of an issue with FontAwesome, although I feel like their should be the ability to support shorter/substring matches of font families (I'm not sure if fontconfig itself supports this either). |

@aqxa1 hey great tip, adding that font family fixes the issue :) |

For me, this issue persists only when waybar-battery module displays the battery charging information. I have tried to render it in various other places where I use the same font: Fira code Nerd Font, and it does display as expected. I feel this is more of a bug rather than fonts being weird. |

I just installed waybar and am using 99.9% of the default config (just disabled the mpd module) and notice when my battery is between ~90 to 99 I get mr icon squarepants:
I do have font awesome installed and haven't noticed a single other oddity with any other icons. In fact when the battery gets to 99% the icon is fixed. (It never gets to 100% or renders plugged but that is prob another issue with my batteries adapter settings.. still need to figure that one out).
