What should be possible that currently is not
I spoke with RaidShadowLily about my particle sound bug report with steam audio, and she shared a fantastic idea that could enhance the existing particle sound component further: the ability to randomize the pitch between two set values.
Think of it like this:
You could add around 30 ambient sounds, for example, but particle sound systems often reuse the same sound multiple times in a row. Adding a pitch variation feature would introduce subtle differences to each instance, reducing repetition and making the audio feel more dynamic.
This feature wouldn’t just improve the system’s overall flexibility—it would also save on upload size. Currently, users like me who may utilise pitch shifts of a single sound are forced to create separate audio files for each variation. With pitch randomization, we’d only need a single audio clip per sound, simplifying workflows and saving resources/storage.
