Another case of what would a user expect to see when they click "Explore Species" before they've seen how it does behave...
The first screen is a map with a circle. To a new user, this is confusing. Why are they presented with a map and circle when they wanted to see species? We at least need some text to prompt them/assist them.
Another problem is that some users may simply want information on a particular species. E.g. "Where is the koala found in Australia?" or "Is the echidna a protected species?". For these cases it's almost impossible for the user to answer those questions.
So the explore species option should give you the choice or simply searching all species OR give you the option to view species known to occur in a particular area (which is what it currently does but we don't tell the user this).
