[Enhancement]: xAPI v2.0.0 support

Currently this SDK seems to support xAPI 1.0.3: https://github.com/BerryCloud/xapi-java/blob/main/xapi-client/src/main/java/dev/learning/xapi/client/XapiClient.java#L62.

Any plans to also add v2.0.0 support?

You’re correct that the current implementation targets xAPI 1.0.3.

We haven’t yet implemented support for xAPI 2.0.0, but it is something we are interested in. Supporting the newer specification would likely involve reviewing the spec changes and updating the model and validation rules accordingly. The simplest approach would probably be to duplicate the existing models and validation rules and adapt them for 2.0.

A client that only sends 2.0.0 statements may actually reduce interoperability, since many LRS implementations in production still primarily operate with 1.x statements. Supporting multiple versions properly would likely require some form of version negotiation, which would add additional complexity to the client. With the exception of two optional properties, 2.0.0 statements are structurally very similar to 1.0.3 statements.

Out of interest, which LRS with xAPI 2.0 support are you looking to connect to? As far as I am aware, most LRS implementations that support 2.0 should still accept 1.x statements, so it would be helpful to understand what functionality in 2.0.0 you are hoping to take advantage of.

You're right that most LRS that support 2.0.0 also support 1.0.3. There's not a particular feature that I need from 2.0.0. It would just be nice to be able to speak the latest version of the standard. Consider this request a nice-to-have.
