It would be nice to know in which state the system is currently:

on / off or automatic / manual mode
pumping (in case the motor is dead you would still see that the ESP is trying to pump)
direction of pumping
errors (like being in failsafe state after motor has been running longer than x seconds)
warnings (like when the sensor is close to the threshold. once the electrodes are corroded, we can't detect when they're in water anymore)

needs a concept how to encode these things with a minimal number of LEDs
