MIDI Clock

I was hoping to get MIDI clock from an external controller into a Cardinal patch.

In VCV there's a MIDIToCV module that exposes this clock, but I don't see an equivalent in Cardinal.

I've tried the Host Time module, but since I'm not running in a DAW there's no transport.
Is there another module that I'm overlooking?

Nope, this requires Host Time and transport.

If you are using JACK Audio then this also provides such a transport, but you cannot use midi messages for this.

calling this JACK transport is confusing, its nothing to do with JACK.
Cardinal gets time information from the host, the JACK standalone provides this info too but not the native standalone.

So an alternative is to run Cardinal in a minimal host that provides timing info.

That said, having an extra CV out for "MIDI Clock Pulse" has been on my mind for a while, there is no nice way to convert clock pulses into a regular DAW-like timeline, so exposing the "pulses" from MIDI Clock makes sense I think.

@falkTX it is jack transport that is providing the information for the jack standalone, no?

You had said before that you did not want to provide midi clock, of course it could be nice to have but it would also be confusing to be coming from Host Time I think.

on the jack standalone yes, but @JW5412 did not mention standalone at any point.

regarding MIDI clock, to be clear I dont mean start/stop/continue, position or other details that is better served by host integration. I specifically write about the clock pulse which can't be nicely adapted into hosts (it would need to match precise bar-beat timings but MIDI jitter makes that impossible)

@falkTX @dromer Thank you for the amazing work on this project!
Ultimately I'm running CardinalFX.lv2 Headless using jalv as the host and pipewire-jack as the audio server on a retro handheld device.
This Handheld is running a variant of Linux and is also hosting a Headless Dirtywave M8 which I'm using to sequence Cardinal.

I'm creating/configuring the patches in CardinalNative and then copying that vcv patch file to the Handheld for final usage.

Having a way to easily access the MIDI Tempo pulses coming from an external MIDI controller in stand-alone CardinalNative would be amazing!
