can't use control to turn in the direction you just walked #1064

What should happen: When I hold control + a directional input, my sprite turns to face that direction.

What actually happens: when I hold control + directional input, I can turn to face any direction except whatever direction I last walked in. This is long after letting go of the movement key, so I have no clue what went wrong.
