Description

wingather — Project Roadmap

This is the living roadmap for wingather. It tracks the overall direction, completed milestones, and active feature areas. This issue stays open as long as the project is actively developed.

Vision

wingather is a Windows admin and security tool for discovering, recovering, and managing hidden or inaccessible windows. It combines practical window recovery with suspicious activity detection — a tool you run when something feels off.

Completed

  • v0.1.0 — Core implementation
    • Win32 window enumeration with DPI awareness
    • Window state detection (normal, minimized, hidden, off-screen, cloaked)
    • Restore, show, and center windows on target monitor
    • DWM cloaking and virtual desktop support
    • DEFCON-style concern levels 1-5 with weighted scoring
    • Default trust list with Microsoft Authenticode verification
    • CLI with dry-run, list-only, JSON output, process exclusion
    • CI/CD with GitHub Actions, release workflow, git hooks

Active / Near-Term

  • Unit tests — foundational, zero coverage currently
  • Config file support — wingather.toml for persistent settings
  • Process ancestry tracking — parent PID chain for suspicious windows

Future

  • Watch/monitor mode — continuous scanning with alerts
  • process-delta integration — cross-reference with process analysis
  • Extended signature verification — beyond Microsoft
  • Platform expansion — macOS, Linux stubs ready to fill
