SUGGESTION: Implement compatibility with Toolbx

Hello!

I am thinking of packaging this software for Fedora. Now, do note that I will work on getting this package into fedora regardless of the result of this suggestion, but as Fedora predominantly uses Toolbx, it would be awesome if Kontainer supported that framework, as that would allow us to preload Kontainer.

Is there any possibility that that could happen?

Very unlikely. Toolbx just doesnt have the features that justify an backend. We did it over in the old KDE Version of Kontainer and it was essentially all downstream additions, I tried upstreaming but toolbx development experience was pure suffering.

For toolbx to get an backend it would need 3 things:

• Compatibility List: One can ask distrobox for images so one can show the User a Selection of Images. toolbx doesnt have this.
• Export Logic: There is no export functionality, I tried adding one upstream (the work still exist in my fork of toolbx under the kde-kontainer branch if you feel like picking it up, you are free to do so) but the project basically refused to compile on anything other then Fedora with weird linker errors. This is the biggest blocker as there is no point for an GUI to only launch an Terminal eitherways.
• Update Logic: There is no update and update all functionality, I tried adding one upstream (the work still exist in my fork of toolbx under th kde-kontainer-upgrade branch if you feel like picking it up, you are free to do so) but the project basically refused to compile on anything other then Fedora with weird linker errors.

I was looking into it and it wouldn't be possible to make all the functionalities work with Toolbox.

It would be possible to:

• List existing containers;
• Create containers;
• Start, stop, open the terminal, and remove containers;

It would not be possible to:

• Update containers;
• Clone containers;
• Export apps;
• List images;

Kontainer, in distros running Toolbox, would basically be an application to create, list, start, remove, and stop containers.
