Describe the bug

This is a few different issues all with compact machines that I've had since SB3 1.0.0 all the way up until now. They are so bad for me I thought compact machines was busted until I couldn't anyone complaining they weren't working and saw some streamers using them.

  • The animation that is supposed to play when "miniaturizing" doesn't always play.
  • Placed items are not consumed and the thrown item may or may not get consumed (got consumed about 1 in 6 for me). If the animation does play you don't get anything after the animation finishes. Then just to spite you the projector field is now non-functional even though the orange projection field is present and in the "ready" state (if it was working before that is) until you break and place down one of the projectors again.

The largest projector setup is extremely bad about doing doing the both of the above bullet points at the same time is the reason I thought the mod was broken since SB3 1.0.0's release until I went poking around the Internet today. Then when it was still not working in SB3 V1.4.2 for me and saw no one was talking about having problems with it. I decided to play around for a while.

I dunno if it makes any difference but I was building near bedrock Y=-118 is where the projectors sat. The below screen shot shows a valid projector setup with a valid compact walls recipe. I threw the ender pearl from where the screen shot was taken.

I like to think I know what I'm doing with compact machines as I had to make a lot of them when I played the "Compact Claustrophobia" modpack for MC1.12 and since I can make it work rarely by just picking up one projector and place it right back down...makes me think it isn't me.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Make the largest compact machines projection field. (place a projector and right click it to see the valid placement points).
  2. Make compact walls. (redstone on iron block then toss ender pearl through the field "wall" to activate.
  3. Repeat step 2 a few times. If your luck is like mine absolutely nothing appeared to have happened on your first try.
  4. pick up and place down any one of the projectors.
  5. Try 2 thru 4 until it stops working. Should be quick as I can hardly make it work.

Expected behaviour

The thing to just work and give me compact walls every time.

I'm getting the same situation, but I can reset the thing just once with a lever. After that, it goes back to not working again.

Playing Stoneblock 3 latest version.

EDIT: May have solved this by setting up a system where the projectors are automatically reset every time items are added to the chest used by an RFTools Builder. Still Testing.

Is the Block of Iron and Redstone in the field? Have you tried turning off and on the projectors and seeing what happens? I noticed that if I did that, they would work, but I have wall creation using an RFTools Builder in a Compact Machine and it seems to work OK.

Just automated compact machine walls and I second this. The field projectors are buggy at best and take all our automation for catalysts down :/

I haven't played SB3 in little over a year. I will download it again and try. However I'm going to assume that the issue is still present. The CompactCrafting and CompactMachine mods haven't been updated for 1.18 since June of 2022. While looking to see if they got any updates I stumble across a mention from the mod author that 1.18 support was dropped in Sept 2022 which is before my ticket here was even made. So unless some other mod was conflicting with CompactCrafting/CompactMachines I think it is safe to say the issue will still be present.

I'll still try to check this weekend to be sure. I won't have time until then.
