The question arises how to best represent the information FDA wants - market name, common name, FDA code etc, in the animal template or as a separate robot table. We will discuss with USDA team too.
The authors mentioned the International Standard Statistical Classification for Aquatic Animals and Plants (ISSCAAP), 3-alpha group and taxonomic information (e.g., scientific name, species family, etc.).
BTW, ISSCAAP group and scientific names are also included in FoodEX2, which could be useful for future mapping.
With respect to information about processing, the food description based on the one-to-seven SUA item descriptor for fish and other aquatic products was considered: “Fresh” (1), “Frozen Whole” (2), “Fillets” (3), “Frozen Fillets” (4), “Cured” (5), “Canned” (6) and “Preparations” (7). Whereby using string identification of terms such as “raw”, “whole”, “fillet” or “dried” each food entry was assigned to one of the seven food description groups.
These are the additions/updates made to the FDA SeafoodList in the January 2024 update.
