Buttons disappear in RA2 main menu when "main menu command" is typed

Using latest cnc-ddraw and its default config. When in main menu, type a code like "HIRES", and after hearing a beep, the buttons disappear like this:

In fact it is not a big issue since the menu can be restored by clicking any button and it only happens when the code is typed in main menu. I just tested it in WinXP VM and no such issue is seen, thus wondering whether it is possible to fix it in cnc-ddraw.
