Can't Add/Link to Any Associated Resources to a metadata record #42
Description
For issue context - I used the Nova Scotia GeoNames official metadata record as a case study to try an add various linkages...
An important part of the ISO metadata model is relating a product to another product(s). A user can benefit from understanding that a product may have other resources that would be useful to know about/add context/provide support in teh use of a resource.
Some typical associations :
- link to a service
- link a derivative dataset product to a source dataset (parent product) or parent abstract entity (collection level record)
- link to a document
- link to a feature catalog
In the Metadata Editor, there is an Associated Resource section on the right hand side of the display. When a user clicks on teh Add button (thinking that they would be adding something) the four options above show up. When a user drills into each of the four, there is no way to add anything. The cursor has a "no entry/unavailble" style icon. No explanation.
There is no help link to documentation, so it is hard to understand what this area is supposed to do. That said - there is above another way to add links to things but it is not clear what the difference is between the "Add associated resource" area is vs adding links/downloads/api/feature catalog etc in the "Distributions" area above that. The fact that these are all identified as "Distributions" is not necessarily a correct group name. As distribution is normally used to describe different formats of the same thing - (versus different related things). Perhaps there is an attempt here to tease these out a bit more and turn the thinking to discern teh two ideas - from capturing all related things as 'distributions' - to actually relating the different things as being "associated" which is how the model describes it...??
Of course it would be very beneficial to make all of these linkages possible (as associated) as that is what this model is supposed to have as a super power / benefit.
