Desktop app #387
Comments
I haven't really heard the need for an official desktop app as of now, as "installing" the app as a PWA partly does the job. And as far as I've seen, most people use FocusTide online. A simple Tauri wrapper could potentially help, and it could have better support for notifications and the likes (as the notifications API is quite restricted in terms of which browser supports what), but I'm unsure if there is a huge demand for a separate desktop version of the app. Maybe others who would find it more useful to have a separate executable instead of the web app can chime in, but I don't see a lot of reasons to go this way now (besides guaranteed offline support (though the Workbox worker should cache the app for offline use on the first load) and a little better notifications). |
Sure, this web app is enough for its purpose but... for example, my initial search was for a pomodoro-type app where I was unable to find anything besides outdated or be it, overly complicated apps. One desktop application that cam pretty close to my needs was Pomatez however it is under-developed. And I found this Focus Tide web app somehow by mistake. The main idea is that there are a lot of people, speaking of the Linux community who appreciate the native apps (or hybrid ones) instead of web sites, it isn't that much about more features. By creating a desktop interface and posting it on these communities, including Flathub (now Linux 'un'official store) and generating some packages .rpm .deb, .exe and such will increase its reach/exposure naturally. And yeah, it should be acknowledged that some features are still missing such as sounds variety, custom path sounds, level and so on but still, it is good enough. Tauri ideea is a good point though. |
An official web wrapper app for Linux and Windows may be considered.
