okay, Quinoa is not able to serve localhost:3000

I think we need to document the role of Quinoa.

Quinoa is not a server, it is an integration between frontend development services and backend services (plus it builds and packages a SPA but that is not relavent here). It is a quarkus extension that also manages the lifecycle of the frontend server. In Horreum's case, the development server used for front end is node.js. So Quinoa is just starting the node.js server in development mode, the exact same as you would if you typed npm run start in the terminal, but that process is not ready in 30s (the default timeout) on WSL2, and Quinoa reports this as an error.

So we either need to;

• Not develop Horreum on WSL2 because the disk performance is horrendous in WSL2
• workaround this issue in windows WSL2 by increasing the timeout
  or
• open an issue in Quinoa to explore other options for determining if the front end development server has started successfully, rather than a blanket 30s timeout

To be clear, this is caused by starting Quarkus in dev mode on a Linux distribution (Ubuntu?) running on WSL2 in Win11.

I don't think this is a scenario we should support because of the problems with WSL2

Some things to note with WSL2... if you are using the host directory inside WSL2 like /mnt/c/your/directory that will be 10X slower in WSL than running in a WSL directory. The reason is it uses NTFS to do all the disk access to access the host Windows machine and not regular file system. Not sure if that is why it is so slow but I know when I run completely inside WSL2 I don't notice disk slowness unless I am accessing /mnt/c .

But yes increasing quarkus.quinoa.dev-server.check-timeout=259200000 will also fix your issue allowing it enough time to start.
