Jeremy

• Raised issue with renaming project from the default name (@franknoirot logged as Renaming projects from default name fails #409) while trying to save the braille example
• Monitoring OpenJSCAD conversation, is happy to help bring context to that conversation if he can help by relaying how CadQuery worked.
• Question: there won't be any ability to support the old CascadeStudio script to transform them into OpenJSCAD? Sorry to keep bringing it back up, but just checking if they can be kept available to users. Having trouble letting it go.
  • @Irev-Dev doesn't have time to put into it transforming them, and the core developer of CascadeStudio doesn't sound like they'll be supporting the project long-term anyway. Would rather like to focus on building the stuff with a brighter future.
• Have we thought of having an API to create new projects and other actions, for example from Semblage?
  • Yes @Irev-Dev has, especially with FreeCAD, but would really be interested in that.
  • Since reading the GOSH forum comments about future CAD tools needing to be social he's been thinking a lot about collaboration features for Semblage and stuff. Being able pull up a shared Semblage project from CadHub and commit changes.
• Pushing up to 0.3 and 0.4 alpha releases for Semblage, but about to get busy as the end of the summer approaches. Has been talking to Aman about the first paper he ever published was on selector synthesis, getting pointer clicks to map to code references.

Frank

• Worked on:
  • Got the intro UX post published
  • Got the IDE fully componentized in Figma, way easier to edit and theme now.
  • Finalized light theme in Editor, just need to pin down a few hover states
• Will work on:
  • Social Media preview images (base on GitHub)
  • Profile updates @Irev-Dev requested in Figma
  • Finish first draft of Fusion360 post
  • Home page
  • Would like to help with frontend dev for a while after that, because we'll have a runway of mostly-designed pages to refine
    • Kurt supports it, open to any help. Frank will work within the already-built pages because he doesn't want to mess with Kurt's patterns if he's in the swing of things rebuilding these pages.

Kurt

• Worked on:
  • Deprecating CascadeStudio and adding save support for CadQuery + OpenSCAD (Release 17 July 2021 #408)
    • Was able to update three and react-three-fiber to latest versions in the process
    • Removed so much hacky code that was there to get CascadeStudio working
    • Removed a bunch of dependencies
    • Majority of files are now typescript as well
    • Overhauled the project details page to match designs (mostly)
    • Added fading gradient to console.
• Thoughts from the week:
  • Lots of chat in the discord this week, few resources I want to circle back to, like catching up on the GOSH forum thread and things that Frank shared
  • Chat with @hrg about supporting JSCAD in CadHub
  • Feeling really good about where we're at, now making improvement directly to users' experiences, not off in some dev section
  • Needs to incorporate new schema updates of "forked from" to work
    • @jmwright asked if we hope to support merging back into the project forked from
    • Maybe, don't want to reinvent the wheel. But Monaco does support code diff visualization, maybe eventually allowing people to approve proposed changes. Doesn't want to make things crazy hard for the large contingent of newcomers to code don't have to deal with GitHub directly, so that would be really useful.
    • @jmwright can speak to that anecdotally. He tried helping a new developer with using GitHub, and they got mad thinking GitHub had "trashed their files", but it was really just a merge conflict.
    • If you want full version history, use GitHub integration, but if you want light forking and merging, do that in CadHub itself someday?
    • @Irev-Dev's 3D diffs would be really helpful for that. But the manifold problem would be an issue with OpenSCAD for example, but would be very helpful.
• Will work on:
  • Bugs with the recent release (such as Renaming projects from default name fails #409)
  • Catch up on resources
  • Social media Preview images (worth focusing on because I think having good links will help draw people to the website)
    • @franknoirot will design: need one with and without an image, based on GitHub
  • Will take it easy because pushed really hard this past week.

I am interested in converting different scripts from other code-cad, it is a good source for new ideas, or pinpointing missing mechanisms in jscad.

I am espacially motivated in the direction of getting the jscad scripting to have realtime preview. Some scripts can be made fast jsut by optimizing jscad, but others may require a change in the approach to the editing workflow.

unlike current jscad, this one is optimized so it caches model, and gives realtime preview for bottom 2 options

many of the improvents in speed wil also benefit server-side execution

The current speedy implementation is hacked-up version that is integrated with threejs, that I have on-the-side, but the end-goal is to include all of those in to official jscad.
