Pain

Currently, when holding a finger anywhere on the video, the app activates a fast-forward seek action.
This makes it difficult to control playback direction quickly or intuitively.

Suggested solution

Proposed behavior

  • Holding on the right side of the video screen should fast-forward.
  • Holding on the left side of the video screen should fast-rewind (reverse seek).

Benefits

  • Enables intuitive gesture-based directional control.
  • Reduces accidental fast-forwarding when the user intended to rewind.
  • Improves one-handed usability and accessibility for mobile playback.

Example implementation

  • Divide the playback area into equal left/right touch zones.
  • If the user holds a finger on the left zonefast-rewind continuously.
  • If the user holds a finger on the right zonefast-forward continuously.
  • Optional: display a small on-screen indicator for direction and speed.

Additional information

  • This would mirror gesture behavior in popular video apps like YouTube and VLC, improving intuitiveness and playback control.
