It was on Dec 2nd 2020, myself locked at home amid the spread of corona seeing a poster which seems to be not an ordinary one. It was titled MY SANTA. The caption itself catched my attention. I enquired more about it to one who uploaded it as whatsapp status. Then i came to know about KITES FOUNDATION, an NGO of a group of young enlightening minds working together for betterment of others and society. My Santa was a happiness project by KITES aiming at creating true joy for differently abled children at the time of depressions and loneliness during the pandemic. It was run by celebrating christmas with them, sharing some moments together which made a sort of happiness for them. I believe if one is smiling because of us,it is the real happiness we could ever get. Then i decided to join KITES. After completing my 1st year university examinations, on April 10th i got a call from Trivandrum coordinator and i joined the group. I never expected that we all will turn to a family as now at that moment.
<br><br> It was just a beginning of a long journey of fulfilling many dreams and thoughts. From school days onwards, I was interested to serve the society,inspired from my father who is a social worker. But i didn't get a platform at that time and i was moving with a hectic schedule of medical entrance preparations. At the time when i joined college I decided, it is the right hour,I have to do something for the society, for the people who needs my help. From there onwards I was searching for a platform to work, finally I reached at the best place I could ever get. Yes, it was KITES, a place where young minds voluntarily work together.
<br><br> What makes KITES different from other NGOs is the fields of interests it concentrate upon. Among all the sectors on which youth can bring changes like HEALTH, EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT, ARTS , etc, KITES act as a catalyst for culminating ideas from young minds, bringing innovative projects from that, and finally resulting in betterment of society. PUNARJJANI, UMEED, SUMEDHA, MY SANTA, FLATTEN THE CURVE, PATH FINDER, RANG FEST, SUMMER POTS, VOICE OF INDIA, MUNNAR VIBGYOR TOURISM, CODE 4 MUNNAR, VIBGYOR RIDE are among the most successful initiatives.
<br><br> My 1st project after being part of KITES was FLATTEN THE CURVE.It was an initiative which was run through Digital Platforms raising awareness in taking vaccination and helping people to register it online. For it i started writing again after a break. Then I joined the Media Team of KITES from where i could voluntarily write and also the team helped me a lot to develop my knowledge in writing. There I saw a family of supporters who was always around to correct us, guide us, and to be part of our happiness.
<br><br>Then came the project UMEED, which was the most awaited one. " While we are buying learning materials for our children, buy some for one who needs it too" that was the idea we shared. Thereby we collected learning materials for school children and distributed it to the needy ones. In trivandrum itself we were able to distribute to more than 150 students at different places including children of tea plantation workers at Ponmudi Hills. Seeing their happy faces after receiving these was the best experience that we got.
<br><br> Currently we are running our upcoming project of BOOK FARM. Restoration of old libraries is our project and creating book villages in all the 14 districts by the end of the year is our dream. Thereby we aims at promoting reading habit to the next generations to come.
<br><br> KITES is a place of happiness, from where a lots of bonds are made and a place where we will meet a lots of inspiring minds those who have the same vision of ours. Each ones are supporting us and uplifting us in every situations to fulfill our dreams for the future INDIA.
<br><br>Together we all can do a lot.
