minimalism

'''Minimalism''' is an lifestyle aesthetic characterized by removing anything superfluous, unnecessarily costly, and streamlining operations. Living simply.

These arenas developed:

  • hackerlofts: dorm-style accommodations for those working on the cutting-edge.
  • Urban nomadism: being able to find places to sleep without having a house or rent, gather food from community gardens, dumpster-diving.
  • Wilderness living: comfortable, ''no''-impact visits to the outdoors, use of high-tech gear while participating in modern society.
  • Tiny-house movement: highly-architected shelters packing maximum utility, small footprint, nearly zero operational (utilities, maintenance) costs, and off-the-grid.
  • Earth-ships: larger, family-living shelters, off-the-grid, using passive solar and earth insulation for temperature maintenance, active-solar and wind generators for electricity, water catchment rather than depending on city utilities, full composting system for processing waste, and otherwise "zero-waste" footprint -- nothing leaves the property unless re-cycled, upcycled, freecycled, or composted.

If you're in a city, find Bob Hobkins`s book, "Transitions Handbook: from oil dependency to local resilience", on how to do it large-scale.
