Weather Announcement not available #123
Comments
any update to adding this to your list of announcements? the announcement is for Cold Weather Advisory. Please let me know. |
SWP retrieves data from the NWS API. "Cold Weather Advisory" is not a valid alert type served by the NWS API. For a list of valid alert types, please see: https://api.weather.gov/alerts/types |
Then why do I have it listed for my area

Because the NWS does a horrible job at keeping their API and documentation up to date. They post things to the API that their official documentation says should not even exist. SWP is able to pull the alert title as text from the API and show it in Supermon as you can see, but there is not matching audio file in the SWP audio library for that alert title, because that alert title does not even officially exist in the NWS API. This is not my fault, not my problem, and there's nothing I can do about it. https://community.allstarlink.org/t/official-skywarnplus-release-announcement/20248/7?u=mason10198 |
So that means we an not tell them to get off there ass and update it to
include it so you can or I program it in on mine for the announcement

I'm in Texas (Harris County) and my node is currently showing both Winter Storm Warning & Cold Weather Advisory for Harris, Montgomery & Waller counties. |
is there a relatively simple way for us to add the message manually? Make a
recording is part of it, but where else would we need to work? I'll poke
around some if I have some time today.

I took a quick peek at SkwarnPlus.py
It looks like a user could add additional warning types BUT the way mason
indexed the sound files that the alert types reference, I don't see a
simple way just to add an alert type to the list without re-indexing many
the sound files unless I missed something (which is likely because I'm not
a professional coder!)
If there is any easy way to add the alert type, i'd take a crack at it.
anyone a python wiz?
