BUILDING FMMIDI
--------
Building fmmidi is easy. You just need to set the desired sound output method
in the Makefile, by changing the SNDOUT variable at its beginning.
No other dependencies beyond the C and C++ standard libraries and the ones
require by the chosen sound output method are required.
There are three sound methods available: libao, bsd and qnx
The libao sound method outputs sound by using the libao audio library, which is
a cross-platform library that talks with the native audio interfaces of several operating
systems like Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc.
Obviously in order to compile fmmidi for libao sound output you need to have libao
and its headers already installed.
Most probably this is the sound output method you will need to use.
fmmidi also supports using libao's facilities to save the generated sound output to disk
in the formats supported by the libao library installed in your system.
The bsd sound method outputs sound by using the native audio interface in NetBSD.
This sound method should also work on OpenBSD, but fmmidi has not been tested on
that operating system.
The qnx sound method outputs sound by using the native audio interface in QNX Neutrino
Since 1.0.1, fmmidi can use the Unix signal handlers in order to provide
features such as skipping a song if Ctrl-C is pressed.
If your system does not support Unix signals, set HAS_SIGNAL_H to no in the
Makefile.
To compile fmmidi, simply give the `make' command, or `gmake' on systems like
*BSD.
The makefile needs GNU Make.
Install by doing `make install'.
Cleaning the distribution works as usual, by doing `make clean'.
fmmidi works both on little endian and big-endian processors.
Real time playing at 44100Hz runs well on an Apple iMac with a 333Mhz PowerPC
processor.
This was tested by compiling fmmidi with gcc 4.9.2 and with the optimization
option -Ofast
