no products shown (but are listed when searched for)

I know this has been asked several thousands times, and the internet is full of links to suggestions, but I still can't seem to get this fixed.

• If I search for products on the store view, they are displayed
• If I add a subcategory with urlkey testsub, link a product from the root category and add this to the end of the shop url thus: shop.example.com/storeviewcode/testsub.html, this product is default displayed.

What could it be that all products from the root category (set as default at store name) are not shown on shop.example.com/storeviewcode/
