A potential alternative would be to create a paragraph type that contains an entity reference field with a Views Entity Reference filter that makes it so that someone can only reference content that is referenced by the entity for which the layout is being managed. This would make use of paragraph blocks or some other alternative that integrates paragraphs with layout builder.
