Mike Neumann and Dr. Tim Jurgensen discuss the impact of social media on society, emphasizing its role in shaping relationships and modern communication. They note how platforms like Facebook and Twitter have evolved, with algorithms filtering content and interactions. They express concerns about the erosion of trust and the potential (No, Mr. AI, not potential - it's documented) for manipulation, particularly to shape the outcome of elections. The conversation touches on the addictive nature of social media, exemplified by dopamine hits from likes and comments. They argue that social media has created a culture of isolation and projection, undermining traditional social mechanisms. They advocate for a return to face-to-face interactions and community engagement as a means to counteract these negative effects.

]]>Mike tries to introduce the topic of "local programming" as a topic. (Borrowed from Adam Curry's mention of same several times on Podcasting 2.0) and Tim delves into the nature of art as a communication channel. The discussion explores the role of advertising in manipulating cognitive systems and the impact of advertising on local content. They explore the concept of community formation and the challenges of maintaining authenticity in a world dominated by advertising. The idea of creating hyper-local information podcasts is proposed as a means to provide relevant and useful content to specific communities. The conversation also reflects on the evolving nature of social interactions and the influence of technology on community dynamics.

]]>Mike and Dr. Tim return to the scene of this crime (the first episode) for another "Breakfast with Dr. Tim".
+We talked longer than we planned because I was too lazy to turn off the mic.
+I'll be back before the next episode - I hope - to update these show notes and chapters with relevant info.
+Until then...

]]>There has to be a first episode, and this is what I have to show for it.
+Dr. Tim and I make a go at our first recording at our favorite local Austin breakfast spot. We ended the recording rather abruptly as we get the feel for recording in the middle of a busy restaurant.
+Fortunately, Dr. Tim is a frequent flyer at the diner, and we expect to be let back in again in a few weeks. :)
+Some links that I mention in the wrap-up at the end of the show.
+ +Adam Curry and the Value 4 Value model for Podcasting
+ +Much work to do on the microphone presence, but we'll get there, maybe. probably. tune in next time to see if we improve.
