OK, but why?

If you want automatic updates, I'll point you to the Mac App Store. If there are for some reason App Store exclusive API, then features using them will be available there.

There is also discovery as well.

In the future, I might consider charging for the MAS build; this is something other open source apps like GrandPerspective and UTM do. I'm not likely to do this because I have a dayjob. But if I do, then I'll still offer binary builds outside of the MAS, and it'll continue to be open source.
