I have a Pixel 8 phone and experienced an issue with the Trash Bin in the "Files by Google" App where after placing an item in the trash bin the 30 day countdown would begin and each day the days to deletion count would drop by 1 day as it got closer to the 30 day deletion horizon.
After 30 days the files would no longer show in the Google Files trash bin so ought to be deleted from the phone but if you check the original folder in which the files are located they are still there marked as trashed with the name prefix "Trashed" and a marker saying "Deleting Today" They never however do get deleted unless you manually select the "Permanently Delete Now option"
I assumed there may be a problem with the Files by Google App and I decided to try the Amaze File Manager and set the "Retention by days" setting to 1 (from the default of -1) I left all other trash bin settings in the app as the default. I selected 12 files and deleted them to the trash bin. Sure enough after just over 1 day the "Trash Bin" at the bottom of the left hand drop down menu shows 0 files left in trash bin and yet if I open the "AmazeData" folder that the app created on my internal storage then the "TrashBinFiles" folder still has the 12 files in it
This is really weird as now with 2 apps I can't use Trash Bin only the "Delete immediately" option. That works perfectly and I am able to delete files just not if they have been placed in a trash bin for auto deletion after a given number of days
The only non standard element of my set up is that I have used the "Shelter" App to create a Work Profile and I employ the "Netguard" App to control individual apps access to the internet but neither of these apps ought to have any influence on file management.
Is there something I'm missing, a security or lock feature that I've inadvertently got turned on that prevents the Trash Bin from doing its job and deleting files as its really puzzling that its happening on 2 seperate apps
