Hello Everyone

My Name is Harsh Sharma, I am final year Electronics Engineering Student.

I’m excited to join the community as a contributor working on ORAssistant – Architecture Enhancements under the mentorship of Jack Luar and team. I’ve recently completed setting up the full local development environment, explored the repository structure, and started diving into the current RAG-based architecture to understand how the assistant retrieves and generates responses within the OpenROAD ecosystem.

My contribution focus aligns with the project goals: enhancing ORAssistant’s architecture to support more advanced, multi-step reasoning workflows. Specifically, I’ll be working towards building a planning agent capable of decomposing complex debugging requests into structured actions, improving automated Makefile and flow configuration generation based on user PPA constraints, and exploring tighter integration between the RAG system and optimization workflows to leverage historical data for smarter design space exploration. I’m also interested in enabling richer context generation from the codebase to make command suggestions more accurate and workflow-aware.

I’m looking forward to collaborating with maintainers and fellow contributors, learning from ongoing discussions, and contributing meaningful improvements that help bridge LLM-driven assistance with real OpenROAD design flows. If there are any recommended starting points, active threads, or areas that could use support, I’d be happy to jump in.
