- Your operating system name and version.
- Any details about your local setup that might be helpful in troubleshooting.

katana could always use more documentation, whether as part of the official katana docs, in docstrings, or even on the web in blog posts, articles, and such.

If you are proposing a feature:
- Explain in detail how it would work.
- Keep the scope as narrow as possible, to make it easier to implement.
- Remember that this is a volunteer-driven project, and that contributions are welcome :)
Katana uses setuptools_scm to set the version from tags.
The development team of Katana attempts to adhere to semantic versioning. Here is the basics taken from the semantic versioning website.
- Patch version Z (x.y.Z | x > 0) MUST be incremented if only backwards compatible bug fixes are introduced. A bug fix is defined as an internal change that fixes incorrect behavior.
- Minor version Y (x.Y.z | x > 0) MUST be incremented if new, backwards compatible functionality is introduced to the public API. It MUST be incremented if any public API functionality is marked as deprecated. It MAY be incremented if substantial new functionality or improvements are introduced within the private code. It MAY include patch level changes. Patch version MUST be reset to 0 when minor version is incremented
- Major version X (X.y.z | X > 0) MUST be incremented if any backwards incompatible changes are introduced to the public API. It MAY include minor and patch level changes. Patch and minor version MUST be reset to 0 when major version is incremented.
- Alpha and beta versions will follow PEP-0440 <https://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0440/> where X.Y.aN or X.Y.bN will denote an alpha or beta release of the version X.Y

Ready to contribute? Here's how to set up katana for local development.
Fork the katana repo on GitHub.
Clone your fork locally:
$ git clone git@github.com:your_name_here/katana.git
Install your local copy into a virtualenv. Assuming you have virtualenvwrapper installed, this is how you set up your fork for local development:
$ mkvirtualenv katana $ cd katana/ $ python setup.py develop
Create a branch for local development:
$ git checkout -b name-of-your-bugfix-or-feature
Now you can make your changes locally.
When you're done making changes, check that your changes pass flake8 and the tests, including testing other Python versions with tox:
$ flake8 katana tests $ python setup.py test or py.test
To get flake8, just pip install them into your virtualenv.
Commit your changes and push your branch to GitHub:
$ git add . $ git commit -m "Your detailed description of your changes." $ git push origin name-of-your-bugfix-or-feature
Submit a pull request through the GitHub website.
Before you submit a pull request, check that it meets these guidelines:
- The pull request should include tests.
- If the pull request adds functionality, the docs should be updated. Put your new functionality into a function with a docstring, and add the feature to the list in README.rst.
- The pull request should work for Python 3.6. Check https://github.com/USDA-ARS-NWRC/katana/actions and make sure that the tests pass for all supported Python versions.
To run a subset of tests:
$ python -m unittest tests.test_katana
