redstone comparator cant work normally!!!!!!!!!!

hello!Vazkii!!!!! I have played this modpack for 554 days in game,so i would like to make a fast furnace for myself.
when i was making the auto timing device,i discovered the redstone comparator cant be locked when the signal from the side more stronger than the signal from the front.Could you please help me solve this problem?I really need it to smelt all my stuff prepared for building my house!!!!!!!
modpack version is 1.4.4

(p.s: picture 1 the camparator in the middle cant be locked！
