Can I create a new file and fill it in like in a notepad?

@WerWolv I see you're online now, so hopefully you'll be able to answer me. I feel this is an idiot question, but anyways, I created an empty file in ImHex, but it doesn't seem like I can type freely in it.

Is that even possible?

Yes, you can open the Edit menu and then enable Insert Mode there. Afterwards you have a cursor in the hex editor view. Double click the first byte and you can start inserting bytes the same was as in a text editor

Well, it works, but it looks like it doesn't behave quite like a text editor. For example, how would you go about deleting a string of stuff you just wrote?

Yeah ImHex is not a text editor in any sense and I would generally advice against trying to use it as one.

What I usually do is to just set the size of the file first to some sane value you can work with (Edit -> Resize) and then just use the standard overwrite mode. If I need to delete stuff while typing, I just go back and overwrite the old bytes.

Ok. I really was not trying to use it as a text editor. It ocurred to me to find the hexadecimal value of a character, I could just write them in imhex, hence why I asked this. Just out of curiosity, I could simply use a converter.
