Using ofono as a backend for

• texts
• calls
• simcard operations
  seems like a very good bet.

Some issues are to be dealt with though :

1. default users hasn't the permissions to connect to the dbus object
2. ofno libs in the packages are outdated
3. modem drivers may not be compatible with SIM8000 out of the box

1. For now, ZPUI runs as root by default,and I'm sure there's a way to allow the user to access the parts of DBus necessary - once the Division of apps by processes #5 is done =)
2. We're definitely going to have to packageour own version of ofono at some point,indeed
3. We're going to have to make them compatible =) The SIM900 driver would be a good start, they're not too different.

Now that a proof of concept is done, we need to tackle several issues :

1. How to ship ofono to a ZP ? (doesn't compile out of the box, not in the repositories)
2. What software architecture ? (A.K.A. what does the OfonoBridge class should handle ?)

1. Well, we now have our own repository (instructions on adding it), so we should be able to ship our own versions and even have an easy upgrade mechanism =)
2. That's a good question. I'm guessing that depends on what we actually need from the ofono API. BTW, as far as I can tell, we need to access the ofono API in a couple of apps - phone, SMS composing app and maybe one or two more. What do you think would be the best method to share the API?

We're now shipping a config file (zerophone-ofono-config), and ofono from Raspbian repositories seems to work OK - so far.
