Not sure if you are aiming for IE backwards compatibly. We will be using a (non-grayscale) workaround.

As for me, I didn't. Currently I have no idea where to find IE9, and didn't aim for the universal compatibility.
It seems to be related to #5, which means that the problem are Cross Domain Requests. Have a look at http://blog.chromium.org/2011/07/using-cross-domain-images-in-webgl-and.html for more detailled information and a possible solution.
