Breaking Changes (GNOME Shell Extension)

While in pre-release, this thread will have updates about breaking changes in Valent that require updating the GNOME Shell Extension.

Not guarantees are made that all breaking changes will be noted. If running Valent and this extension, it's recommended to update both at the same time.

The clipboard API has been overhauled, requiring an update to the GNOME Shell Extension. No other functionality should be affected.

The project has a new gnome-42 branch and main has now been ported to GNOME 43. It's unlikely there will be any
more updates for GNOME 42, unless there are breaking changes in Valent before the release of GNOME 43.

There was a GAction change in Valent (#245) to allow device pages to be opened directly. The gnome-42 branch (GNOME 42) has been updated to account for this change, but the feature itself is only supported on main (GNOME 43). For your convenience:

There was an API break for the plugins, requiring an update to Valent for the Clipboard and Lock Screen plugins to work.

This change won't be backported to GNOME 42 as Valent has now migrated to the GNOME 43 run-time.

The Python plugin has been removed from the GNOME Shell extension, requiring an update to both the extension and Valent.

The plugin has been ported to C and will automatically detect whether the extension is running. Valent will still need permission to talk to org.gnome.Shell on the session bus.
