It is apparently dangerous to write a provocative message to our list. </segment>

It was first said that I believe no external reality exists</segment>

Neither is my belief.</segment>

the Greek skeptics.</segment>

It was also said that I do not value those who write on history and
philosophy of science.</segment>

Let me clarify.</segment>

My position is closest to one that is expressed by Stephen Cole in MAKING
SCIENCE.</segment>

I also believe that scientists do many impressie things.</segment>

predicted quite precisely (at least precisely enough for me) when the
Shoemake Levy comet (or debris) would hit Jupiter,</segment>

did hit when they said it would.</segment>

what actually happened doesn't disturb me in the least.</segment>

of their uncertainties and confusions.</segment>

people are deliberately misrepresenting various things in the name

of dollars.</segment>

Historians and philosophers of science do interesting things on a
shoestring.</segment>

Some criticize me as being naive</segment>

to the misrepresentations</segment>

I do not have detailed knowledge of the accomplishments of all the gangs</segment>

few say that I am being too harsh on these investigators.</segment>

to see clean, safe, cheap fusion energy.</segment>

produce knowledge that will somehow contribute to our society.</segment>

genome produce benefits to society.</segment>

I search with the proverbial lantern for the contributions of my favorite
gangs.</segment>
<segment id="40" parent="56" relname="list"> I welcome evidence that I am too harsh on these investigators.</segment>

would love to believe that the billions we are spending on these projects
are well spent.</segment>
