"Event" Module

Hi,

Thank you for this great Collection. Is anyone already working on an "Event" module for this Collection? I'm new to this Contribution process, but would like to learn and contribute if I can...

I am not a ServiceNow Admin / expert; so I apologize if am misunderstanding something...

At my organization, we use ServiceNow (out of the box as much as possible) as the core "repository" of facts/truths about our environments. From my understanding, an "Event" is a more "general" type of ServiceNow record, whereas an "Incident" is more specific.
So, we leverage the ServiceNow Workflows to process incoming "Events", and let the Workflow Rules determine if an "Event" needs to result in a corresponding "Incident/Problem/Request/etc.".

This allows us to make management of our monitoring/alerting practices much easier by simply making changes to ServiceNow Workflows, without requiring changes to sources like Nagios, etc. The sources only need to care about sending an "Event" payload, and thus, there's no need to replicate "Create ServiceNow Incident" logic at each source.

I hope that helps explain my context for this topic.

Aside:
I tested the "Incident" module, and I've confirmed that it is bypassing many of the Workflow Rules, and hence, the resulting Incident ticket has some missing field values. These field values are usually populated by the Workflows by referencing known data within other ServiceNow tables.

I look forward to your thoughts/suggestions/corrections to my understanding/etc...

Hi,

Just want to let you know that I've drafted a working version of the new "Event" module for this Collection. I'm currently in the middle of some unit-testing on a lab server. Over the next week or two, I plan to fully-integrate the new revised Collection into our Dev environment, and perform proper end-to-end testing and validations. Thereafter, I plan to submit the new "Event" module as a Contribution to the this Collection for subsequent reviews, validations, etc.

@r-khatri I am not sure what your use case is but you could install the Ansible Spoke to your ServiceNow instance and use flow designer to trigger playbooks based on event criteria.
