Description
This PR removes the UnsafeReflectiveConstructionCast check from the disabledChecks list in the Error Prone configuration and addresses its reported violation in AvroUtilsTest.java
The original code performed an unchecked cast on the output of newInstance() which can be unsafe since failures result in a ClassCastException after construction happens. The fix now enforces the subclass type during reflection by using asSubclass(Iterable.class), safely throwing a ClassCastException before instantiating the object if the incorrect class was passed in.

Summary of Changes

Hello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request enhances the project's code quality and robustness by activating a new Error Prone check. It addresses a specific instance of unsafe reflective construction, ensuring that type mismatches are caught earlier during reflection, thereby improving the reliability of the codebase.

Highlights

  • Error Prone Check Enabled: The 'UnsafeReflectiveConstructionCast' Error Prone check has been enabled by removing it from the disabled checks list in the build configuration.
  • Type Safety Improvement: An existing reflective instantiation in 'AvroUtilsTest.java' was updated to use 'asSubclass(Iterable.class)', ensuring type safety and preventing potential ClassCastException at runtime by validating the type before object creation.

🧠 New Feature in Public Preview: You can now enable Memory to help Gemini Code Assist learn from your team's feedback. This makes future code reviews more consistent and personalized to your project's style. Click here to enable Memory in your admin console.

Changelog
  • buildSrc/src/main/groovy/org/apache/beam/gradle/BeamModulePlugin.groovy
    • Removed 'UnsafeReflectiveConstructionCast' from the list of disabled Error Prone checks.
  • sdks/java/extensions/avro/src/test/java/org/apache/beam/sdk/extensions/avro/schemas/utils/AvroUtilsTest.java
    • Modified reflective instantiation calls to 'Class.forName(...).asSubclass(Iterable.class)' to enforce type safety.
