I believe so, without that you have no way of changing the included packages within iOS. I think on Android you can specify via expo-build-properties but there is no way to remove unused pieces. Our app size went from 45mb to 150mb.

I'm not an Expo guy but I know that this config plugin can be used to configure the packages.
