Span kind (producer/consumer) is not reported in spans

Using kafkajs to connect to AWS MSK Cluster. Although, I am getting 'Topic Creation Error' while creating a topic. I still expect that spans get populated with correct information automatically. But I do not see 'Producer' or 'Consumer' in span.kind or in any other span attributes.
I am able to send this as custom span vis producer/consumer hooks. But I am expecting this information to get populated automatically as I can see that the library does have the code to do that.
