@p, @a and @r don't work

When writing commands to add or relieve money from a player's account, I can only target specific players' usernames and I get and 'invalid' output whenever I use the player targets @p, @a and @r.
I don't know if it's intended or not, but this feature is CRUCIAL in a multiplayer server that revolves around economy
