Awesome UMMC Approved Software

A curated list of awesome software that UMMC has approved for us to use. It will help us expedite our IT software requests.

Software Promotions

• GitHub - Student Developer Pack - As long as you have a current ummc email and badge, you can request a student pack.
• Jetbrains - Professional Developer Tools - IDEs for python and web development for free.

Programming

Languages

• Python -
• R - The R programming language is a key to statistical analyses and data visualization.
  • RStudio - The Rstudio IDE allows for visualization of any charts, plots, etc. you generate in R.
  • Rtools - Be sure to include Rtools in your request with Rstudio to use all the features.
• Perl
• Node.js

IDEs

• Anaconda - Anaconda can be installed without requesting it and is use primarily for python and R programming.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio Code - Ships with the anaconda suite, but requires admin installation.
• Jetbrains - Free with .edu email address.
  • Toolbox - This helps you update common tools without oversight.
• GitHub Desktop
• Microsoft Visual Studio IDE - Fully-featured integrated development environment (IDE) for Android, iOS, Windows, web, and cloud.

SSH Clients

• MobaXterm - Enhanced terminal for Windows with X11 server, tabbed SSH client, network tools and much more.
• PuTTY - an SSH and telnet client, developed originally by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code and is developed and supported by a group of volunteers.
