Since trails are mostly used starting at the start point, I think it would be a great improvement of usability to add an option to only show trail start points and a hotkey which activates a trail if you are near the startpoint. This would remove the chaos of trails from the screen. Maybe a parameter for paths would be useful to disable this feature for specific paths if there are any which are commonly not used from the start point.
I would imagine it to be used like this:
Hotkey near a start point if no trail is expanded: expand the trail with this startpoint
Hotkey near a start point with the trail with this start point active: collapse trail
Hotkey near a startpoint with another trail active: collapse trail and expand trail with this start point
Hotkey anywhere else: collapse trail
A hud could be added (like the "f to use" one of gw2), which could be clickable to make this usable without a hotkey.
