VM Location (disk.img)

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to use a different directory for the disk.img file location?
By default, it was created here:
/Users/didier/.tart/vms/sonoma-base/disk.img
The file is 70GB and is taking up space in my backups.

You can redefine $TART_HOME environment variable to point to something else then /Users/didier/.tart.

I typed in the terminal
TART_HOME="/Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart"

I moved all the directories from
/Users/didier/.tart/
to
/Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart

I got an error

didier@Didier's Mac-mini tart % tart run sonoma-base
Error: the specified VM "sonoma-base" does not exist

Which directory structure do you have at /Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart?

Can be checked with the command below:

find "/Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart"

You should have vms, cache and tmp directories at the root of this directory.

Hello,
I have cache, tmp, and vms in my new directory /Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart.

I found out why there was an error.
After TART_HOME="/Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart"
you need to run the command
export TART_HOME
Tart then launches correctly. 🙂

❗️This configuration is not persistent.
You must run the command lines for a new Tart session.

You can put

export TART_HOME="/Volumes/Secondary Volume/settings files/tart"

to your ~/.zprofile and all new sessions will get it by default.
