Sadly some companies send me documents I need to keep in Landscape format. This causes 2 problems:
It's hard to read the resulting images without rotating my monitor :)
OCR fails miserably since all the text is sideways on.
In addition, it's not always obvious which is 'up' on some scanners - it's irritating to have to re-scan a document just because you put it upside-down.
Clearly the option to rotate needs to be done before OCR, but it would be annoying to have to check/confirm the image every time (viewing 50+ previews of normal A4 docs would get old, fast). So I propose:
A new checkbox on the Acquire scan page - Preview Before OCR - defaults to off
If checked the image is presented to the user, rotation (by 90 degree blocks only) is allowed, and once OKed, the process continues to OCR and beyond.
Make sense?
