Could we support the use of HUMAN.MAJOR.MINOR versioning scheme or other alternative versioning logic?

Does clibs version check have some logic in it or is it updating on any change to the version string?

If there is some logic in it, could we at least shift the logic one dot placement forward to allow for the first version number to be incremented when there is a large scope change.
