@kbobrowski suggested a few weeks ago to create a community chat room to enable discussions beyond issues and pull requests. Since then, nothing seems to have been organised by maintainers so I've created a gitter chat room for us all to chat. Feel free to join, everyone. We will create extra rooms if the discussion becomes multi-threaded and separates along clear topics.

It's open for anyone, free and easy to join: https://gitter.im/coronawarn/community?utm_source=share-link&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=share-link

Update The chat room is now available on Slack: https://join.slack.com/t/covidapps/shared_invite/zt-gmgl4l13-E4Xcn1ZfPFsPz6V_KjROCg

Update The old invite link has expired so there is a new way to join our Slack channel: https://covidapps.herokuapp.com/

Maybe the chat room could be linked to somewhere centrally on this repo (of course mentioning the independence from SAP/Telekom) to allow the community to come together.
Gitter

Here's @kobrowski's post from back then:

A suggestion for maintainers: maybe you could set up discord / slack channels for free-for-all, open, wild-west and heated discussions.

Regarding legal requirements, I think discussing whether there is a legal requirement or not may be even constructive for solving these problems, since I'm sure community would start to dig into German law to determine it quickly and perhaps could support you with findings. We are not only developers / users, I'm sure we'd find some lawyers among ourselves as well.
But I agree that such heated discussions on GitHub issues may be counter-productive, overwhelming, and sometimes violating code of conduct - that's why it's common to have a project discord / slack for such discussions - it would keep GitHub issues temperature much lower!

we have moved to slack, since gitter proved to be not very efficient to use, you can join with this invitation: https://join.slack.com/t/covidapps/shared_invite/zt-gmgl4l13-E4Xcn1ZfPFsPz6V_KjROCg

in case of any problems with joining please just report it here in this issue or drop me a message

Slack is not open source as far as I know, but you know, GitHub isn't open source either (correct me if I'm wrong about that), so I personally don't mind, but nobody has to join the Slack Channel 👍

Gitter is not open source as well, they only open-sourced frontend part ;)

Hello @corneliusroemer,

@tkowark has added the Slack channel and I can confirm the Slack channel is working.

I will pin this issue so this will appear on top of the issue list.

If there are any other open topics on this issue please let us know.

Best regards,

@GPclips I don't think this issue is supposed to be closed.
The community Slack channel is still active and ppl might want to join it.

Hello @daimpi ,

you are right. I will reach out to clarify if we can link the slack channel somewhere that the community can join more easily.
Afterwards, we probably could go on and close this thread; the channel still will be available to the community.

Thanks,
LMM
