Webcalendar install on debian 12.8.0

Hi all,
Here my setup:

• Debian 12.8.0
• PostgreSQL 17.0-1
• Php 8.2.24
• Webcalendar version v1.9.12 (1.9.10 doesn't work when trying to update database)
• Nginx 1.22.1

Here the steps i made:
apt install --no-install-recommends -y php8.2 php8.2-{imagick,bcmath,bz2,gmp,pdo,common,mbstring,gettext,fileinfo,gd,curl,fpm,xml,zip,pgsql,mysqli,intl} unzip openssl sudo git gnupg imagemagick

PHP8.2 setup

cp /etc/php/8.2/fpm/php.ini{,.bck}

sed -i 's/memory_limit = 128M/memory_limit = 512M/g' /etc/php/8.2/fpm/php.ini
sed -i 's/post_max_size = 8M/post_max_size = 128M/g' /etc/php/8.2/fpm/php.ini
sed -i 's/;date.timezone =/date.timezone = Europe\/Paris/' /etc/php/8.2/fpm/php.ini
systemctl reload php8.2-fpm

For PostgreSQL:

apt install -y unzip curl wget gpg sudo

curl -fsSL https://www.postgresql.org/media/keys/ACCC4CF8.asc | gpg --dearmor -o /usr/share/keyrings/postgresql-keyring.gpg

echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/postgresql-keyring.gpg] http://apt.postgresql.org/pub/repos/apt/ $(lsb_release -cs)-pgdg main" | tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/postgresql.list

apt update

apt install -y postgresql-17 postgresql-contrib

systemctl enable --now postgresql@17-main.service
systemctl status --now postgresql@17-main.service

Setup Postgresql:

sudo -u postgres psql

postgres=# CREATE DATABASE webcalendardb;
postgres=# CREATE USER webcalendar_user WITH PASSWORD 'password';
postgres=# GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON DATABASE webcalendardb TO webcalendar_user;
postgres=# \c webcalendardb;
webcalendardb=# GRANT CREATE ON SCHEMA public TO webcalendar_user;
postgres=# \q 

Webcalendar v1.3.0 development edition (same as Version:1.9.12):

cd /tmp

wget https://github.com/craigk5n/webcalendar/archive/master.zip
unzip master.zip -d /var/www/
cd /var/www/
mv webcalendar-master/ webcalendar
chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/webcalendar/
chmod -R 755 /var/www/webcalendar/
chmod -w /var/www/webcalendar
chmod -w /var/www/webcalendar/includes/
chmod 400 /var/www/webcalendar/includes/settings.php

I needed to modify /var/www/webcalendar/includes/classes/WebCalendar.php (line 945) to avoid a blank page issue
Replace

if (@mb_language($mapped_lang) && mb_internal_encoding(translate('charset'))) {

by

if (@mb_language($mapped_lang) && mb_internal_encoding(translate('iso-8859-1'))) {

Nginx:

apt-get install nginx -y

unlink /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default

Nginx configuration (/etc/nginx/sites-available/webcalendar.conf):

   server {
    listen 80;
    listen [::]:80;
    server_name $WEBCALENDAR_SERVER_IP;
    client_max_body_size 1024M;
   
   location /webcalendar {
    alias /var/www/webcalendar;
    index index.php index.html index.htm;

    error_log /var/log/nginx/webcalendar.error.log;

        fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $request_filename;

}

Then

ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/webcalendar.conf /etc/nginx/sites-enabled

nginx -t

systemctl restart nginx
systemctl status nginx

Open a browser at http://WEBCALENDAR_SERVER_IP}/webcalendar/install/index.php

then follow the instructions

if you have issue, delete /var/www/webcalendar/includes/settings.php file and do again the configuration process.

When successfuly finish go to http://WEBCALENDAR_SERVER_IP/webcalendar

login: admin
Password: admin

Basic Webcalendar setting:

Go to Settings – User Manager – Add New User and add at least one administrative account and one non-administrative account for normal use.

For security reasons, delete the default administrator.

Log out and log back in using the new administrative account.
