For reasons that aren't clear Garmin will only pair with Myfitnesspal (MFP) for nutritional information. It is rumored that they signed a deal sometime ago. There are a number of alternative programs and sources for this information that are (IMHO) better. I used MFP for a decade as it changed corporate hands and became less useful.
Of late garminconnect has enhanced its upload capabilities, now including body composition, weight, blood pressure, in addition to activities. Cool! Is there any chance we could figure out the api for nutritional uploading? It is entirely possible that it is a pull from Garmin's side in which case this wouldn't work.
Uploading calories consumed is the obvious starting point.
