What can I do if sending emails is not working on my server?

I built a complete website offline on my localhost.

Now I have put it on my server and the site seems to work fine.
I then realized that I didn't change the password from something stupid to something smart. So I logged in, changed it and it said to wait for an email.

I can not log in anymore and no emails arrive.

For everything I try, change email, reset password, whatever. It says to check my email. But no email ever arrives. No it's not in spam...

How do I fix this 🙄

You have to ensure, that the php-mail-function is configured well, that sendmail is installed and configured. And you have to configure Yellow.

php-mail and the server certainly is working - Or... Other sites (wordpress, nextcloud, matomo etc.) can send emails just fine.
I'll look for settings, but so far haven't found any other than what the sending email is.

Where can I find such settings? Or what do I check in Yellow?
I've looked at these - https://datenstrom.se/yellow/help/ and this, https://datenstrom.se/yellow/help/how-to-change-the-system but didn't find anything email related.

As far as i know there is nothing fancy with the Yellow mail function. The password reset of the edit-extension uses nothing else.

1. You may want to check if the core and used extensions are up to date. Use the yellow-command php yellow.php update in a terminal or console on the destination.

2. Do you use an extension, that may use a onMail-method, which may break the mail-building process? Remove or update that extension, if possible.

3. Check your servers mail log or your connected spam-folder. There may is an hint.

4. What farytale does the error-logs tell?

5. If you don't care about that damn mail thing and just want to change your account password, here the yellow-command is also handy: php yellow.php user change YOURMAIL@EXAMPLE.COM YOURNEWFANCYANDSECUREPASSWORD123

1. I've checked for updates, 1 unspecified update was installed but I doubt it's relevant.
   It's a new site, downloaded everything maybe 4 days ago. So I'm not at all out-of-date.

2. I don't know what an onMail method is but I kept things very simple, nothing should send/do email as far as I know except the Edit extension.

3. Nothing in the log that I can see. It's supposed to send to a icloud email. So not much log to look at either.

4. Same, nothing in the error log either.

5. Yea I could do that... But broken stuff...
   Are there no settings or something in Yellow that need adjusting since I switched from localhost to a real server? Some defaults that were assumed and are now different? Or how can I get errors to show?

Do I need the Edit extension at all? Probably not...? Well, maybe for a quick blog post.
Can I disable the email function in it and handle stuff from terminal from now on?

Oh yes, I'll take a look.
PHP Mail works fine, it's something in Yellow, some setting or whatever.
No need to troubleshoot in that direction.

Oh yes, the noreply value didn't work... Added the domain and now I get emails, as described in #904

That could be clearer in the documentation that that should (probably) be changed.
